Abstract

In this study, the effect of nanosilica on mechanical properties and durability of concrete containing polypropylene fibers was investigated. Polypropylene fibers were used at a length of 18 mm and a length to diameter ratio of 0.9 mμ. The effect of fibers and nanosilica on different concentrations of 0.3%, 0.2% and 0.3% for fibers and 2, 4 and 6% for nanosilica on concrete with a water-to-cement ratio of 38% was investigated. In total, more than 192 cubic and cylindrical samples were made according to ASTM standards, and compressive strength, indirect tensile strength, ultrasonic testing and electrical resistivity tests were performed on the samples. The results of the experiments showed a significant increase in the mechanical properties and durability of concrete. Compressive strength increased by up to 55% and tensile strength increased by 25%. The sharp increase in electrical resistance also indicates the high durability of this type of concrete.
