The Effect of Peer Education on Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Ilam Province in Mental Health

Abstract

Objective: The aim of the current study was to the effect of peer education on behvarze awareness, attitude and practice in Ilam province of mental health.

Materials Method: This quasi- experimental study was done on 50 behvarzes in Ilam province. The data was collected using knowledge, attitude and performance questionnaires of behvarze. Behvarzes were randomly assigned in to two groups. In one group the behvarze were directly educated and another the kardan were educated. The data was collected using 3questionaires containing demographic data, assess the knowledge, , assess the attitude and assess the behvarze performance. Knowledge, attitude and performance of behvarze were measured at baseline and2 week after the intervention.

Findings: The mean score of knowledge after the training in peer education group was 65.9, in the kardan education group was 63.66. The mean score of attitude after the training in peer education group was 15.08, in the kardan education group was 13.95. The mean score of performance after the training in peer education group was6.75, in the kardan education group was 7.36. This study showed that there was no significant in knowledge, attitude and performance scoured between two group's behvarze after the intervention.

Discussion and Conclusion: Peer group education could not be considered as an effective approach to increase behvarze knowledge, attitude and performance .Hence the conduction of this program is not recommended as an effective teaching method for behvarze.
